As you know, we’re currently writing our 31st book, a guidebook titled DogTipper.com’s Texas with Dogs. Through the years, we’ve written several guidebooks to Texas and many guides to the Caribbean (and even one to Cyprus!)
Whether involving dog travel, honeymoon travel, or general travel, all these books have one thing in common: to research them, we have to travel a lot. In most cases, we don’t go to a single destination, unpack, and stay in a single hotel room for the duration of the trip. Typically we travel to a location, check into a hotel room, do our research in that area (whether that’s checking out the hotel itself for the guidebook or researching the area attractions) and then we load up and head to another hotel.
In all, that’s a lot of hotel rooms…and a big potential for bed bugs.
We’ve worried about bed bugs ever since the plague of bed bugs has hit hotels nationwide so we were super excited about reviewing ThermalStrike’s Bed Bug Proof Luggage! The first of its kind in the world, this luggage actually heats up to kill bed bugs as well as other creepy crawlies like mites and fleas that might have hitched a ride home with you.
The luggage itself is as stylish as it is practical and comes in two sizes: a 20″ carry-on and a 24″ upright. The luggage is TSA and FAA compliant (it even features an integrated TSA-approved lock). The luggage has a tough polycarbonate blend outer shell so it will stand up to being tossed in the overhead bin many, many times or checked as often as you like.
Like many other pieces of luggage, it features four 360 degree rotational wheels and inside you’ll find two independently zippered sections for all your packed items as well as an additional cosmetic/medicine pouch.
But that’s where any resemblance to other luggage ends. Because this luggage actually plugs in to kill bed bugs!
Plug the luggage in a standard 110 volt outlet and the infrared heat technology (which adds under half a pound to the bag’s weight) goes to work. The temperature of the bag and its contents rises to 140 degrees F. The process takes about two and a half hours then an automatic sensor will turn off the heating at the point where the temperature has risen enough to kill any creepy hitchhikers in your bag and belongings!
The ThermalStrike retails for $349 (20-inch) and $399 (24-inch) with a discount for the set. For more information on the ThermalStrike, visit the ThermalStrike Website and Facebook page or call 1-866-470-1755.
We’re looking forward to taking ThermalStrike for a “test drive” to Washington, DC for the BlogPaws conference in a couple of weeks and know we’ll sleep sounder on our return knowing we don’t have to worry that we’ve returned home with bed bugs!
Would you like to make sure you don’t bring bedbugs back from your next trip by protecting your mattress? ThermalStrike is part of Protect-a-Bed and they’re giving one of our readers a Protect-A-Bed BugLock Mattress Encasement (ARV $49.99-89.99, dependent upon size). The winner will have their choice of mattress sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and California King. Depth choices are 9, 11 and 15 inches. The machine-washable encasement protects your mattress from bedbugs (and allergens!) so it’s a great way to keep your mattress safe after your travels (or protect the mattress in a guest bedroom when guests come with their luggage!)
